How long can cargo be stored in a customs warehouse?
The storage period of goods under the customs warehouse regime is not limited, except for goods that, due to their characteristics, may pose a danger to the environment, human, animal, or plant life and health as a result of long-term storage.
How does a licensed customs warehouse differ from a temporary storage warehouse?
A licensed customs warehouse allows goods to be stored without paying duties and taxes for a specified period under full control of the customs authorities.
Thus, the customs warehouse regime is ideal for a foreign economic activity participant when there is no buyer yet or when goods need preparation for sale. Under this regime, part of the cargo can be processed and cleared.
A temporary storage warehouse, on the other hand, is mainly used for short-term storage before import or transit clearance.
Breaking down consignments in the temporary storage regime is prohibited.
The storage period for goods in temporary storage is 90 calendar days.
Is it possible to change the owner of the goods while they are stored in a customs warehouse?
The transfer of ownership of foreign goods placed under the customs warehouse regime is permitted. Information about the owner of such goods must be provided to the customs authority when releasing the goods from the customs warehouse. If the change of ownership involves the export of goods from the territory of Ukraine, such export is carried out based on new shipping documents and a customs declaration (or a document that replaces it).
